Meeting place: Hartford Street Zen Center
57 Hartford Street (between 17th & 18th Streets)
San Francisco, CA 94118
Sundays, 3 to 4:30 pm, with meditation and discussion by guest speaker
Our group serves as a "Dharma Gate" to introduce the teachings of the Buddha to LGBT folk in such a way that we honor and respect all beings and where they are in their lives, and help them to preserve a healthy and positive self-image particularly about their sexuality. We are a nondenominational Buddhist group that is not committed to any one branch or school of Buddhism, but embraces all.

The Alphabet Sangha is a weekly meditation group for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, Same-Gender Loving, and Two-Spirit communities. Because that's such a mouthful, we call ourselves the Alphabet Sangha. We gather for Buddhist meditation practice, Dharma teachings, and friendly, supportive community. Together we explore mindfulness and awareness for cultivating an open heart in our everyday lives.
We are a diverse, multicultural community, committed to social justice and to maintaining a Sangha that's welcoming to people of all races, ethnicities, classes, genders, abilities, sizes and ages.
We welcome people at all levels of practice. Simple beginning meditation instructions are always offered. If you have specific questions about meditation, a teacher is usually available to answer questions.

Q Sangha
Q Sangha

qsangha@mccsf.org
Q-Sangha is a ministry of the Metropolitan Community Church of San Francisco in the engaged "Unified Buddhist" tradition of Thich Nhat Hanh (which blends the best insights of the Theravada, Zen and Pure Land schools of Buddhism in a contemporary way).
The kind of Buddhist spirituality we espouse is ecumenical, nonsectarian and for the equal benefit of Buddhists, Christians and those of other faiths as well as the non-religious. Mindfulness is not limited to one religion; it is a spiritual practice and a way of life that can benefit anyone and everyone.
Everyone is welcome, regardless of religious affiliation or meditation experience. A typical evening includes 25 minutes of sitting meditation, 10 minutes of walking meditation, a dharma talk, group discussion and singing. We frequently have guest speakers.
The "Q" in Q Sangha refers to Queer, which includes lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people. Sangha is the Buddhist term of spiritual community.
Our practice helps us to be present and accepting and to calm our bodies and minds. From this place, it is easier to live with greater compassion, understanding and happiness.
When: Tuesdays from 7 - 9 p.m.
Where: MCC-SF, 150 Eureka St.

SF LGBT Center
1800 Market Street, 3rd Floor, room 300
San Francisco
Monday Nights 5:30 pm - 6:30pm
We have been meeting since July 2002. We explore mindfulness, meditation, and spiritual practice in our day to day lives and focus on cultivating an open awareness spacious enough to include whatever arises moment to moment. It is a wonderful way to bring closure to your activities of the day.
Format:
meditation 30 min
topic discussion, dharma talk, or guest speaker 20-25 min
short sitting 3-5 min
There is no cost of the group, and the group sustains itself through voluntary donations which in the Buddhist tradition is called the practice of "dana" or generosity (the rent is $45 per week). It is a drop-in group, so please join us in supporting and deepening our collective mindfulness practice.
If you are new to meditation, you are welcomed to approach one of us for guidance and instructions to begin a meditation practice.
Sangha leaders: Anushka Fernandopulle and Larry Yang
