Rocks and Clouds Zendo is a small Zen Buddhist community located in Sebastopol, California. In March 2005, Buddha Dendo relocated from San Francisco to the Cobb Mountain region, on 160 acres of land, at the 2500 ft elevation on the 4700 ft mountain. Anybody is welcome to visit at any time, as long as they keep the basic rules of a temple, such as not bringing meat, fish, alcohol, or drugs on to the temple grounds. For those who wish to lead the renunciate life of the bodhisattva, the full training is available, including such things as kaihogyo (mountain circling meditation), purification, morning and evening liturgies, mantra recitation, periods of seclusion, samatha-vipasyana (shi-kan) meditation, and goma (sacred fire offering). For this last practice, a proper hall is being constructed. The training is directed by VK Leary Keisho, a priest in the lineage of Enami Kakusho (Gozen-sama) of Mt Hiei, Japan.

The San Francisco Bay Area Vajrakilaya Centers were established by His Holiness Kusum Lingpa in May 1995 to help new and older students of Buddhism join together in an energetically strengthening atmosphere of group practice. The sadhanas (meditations) we regularly do, especially Vajrakilaya, are enhanced by the heartfelt presence of sangha members putting out right effort to help destroy both personal obstacles on the spiritual path and the ever increasing obstacles arising in the world around us.

We invite all interested people to join us in weekly practice. The time commitment (roughly an hour and a half per week) is small compared to the enormous benefits for ourselves and those around us. The El Cerrito Center gathers every Friday night at 7:30 pm. The Oakland Center offers weekend practice on Saturdays and Sundays and special practice sessions on the 10th and 25th day of the lunar month. Please call if you need directions or more information.

For those relatively new to sitting practice there is always someone available to answer questions and to help provide instructions. Please call ahead so we can set up a time to talk.

Fund-raising efforts are directed toward supporting the Nechung monastic community in India and Tibet and creating educational and health-care facilities for Tibetan refugees. A long-term goal of the Nechung Center is to complete the refurbishment of the original monastery in Tibet.
